Good Environmental Choice


The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation owns the Good Environmental Choice eco-label. It is responsible for checking the use of the brand and for ensuring that the criteria are satisfied by means of checking the licensees annually. Good Environmental Choice is the only certificate of origin for electricity that pays specific attention to biodiversity. Good Environmental Choice-labelled electricity comprises the following components:

  • Electricity from licensed power stations
  • Electricity from hydroelectric power will be supplemented with electricity from wind or biofuel.
  • Allocation to environmental fund (SEK 1.50/MWh)
  • Licence fee to the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SEK 0.06/MWh)

SKM brokers complete Good Environmental Choice-labelled electricity, as well as the individual components – Good Environmental Choice-approved bio-power, hydroelectric power and wind power. Bilateral agreements are drawn up between purchaser and seller. The hydroelectric power component can ideally be purchased with electronic guarantees of origin.
