![]() ![]() SKM – Certificates of origin – Guarantees of originGuarantees of origin are proof that electricity has been produced from renewable energy sources. Guarantees of origin are available in two versions, both in electronic format (Guarantee of Origin (GoO)) and as paper documents. Trade in guarantees of origin is separate from the physical trade in electricity, and is traded in number of MWh and production years. For example, Hydroelectric power GoO 2007 or Good Environmental Choice-approved Hydroelectric power GoO 2008. These have come about in accordance with the EU directives 2001/77/EC regarding renewable electricity and 2004/8/EC regarding combined power and heat, in order to facilitate the trade in electricity from renewable energy sources and electricity from highly efficient combined power and heat stations. Guarantees of origin are recommended for use as certificates of origin for electricity. At present, however, electronic guarantees of origin cannot be issued for e.g. a wind power plant that receives electricity certificates, but are only available in the form of paper documents. Electronic guarantees of origin (GoO) are a reliable form of evidence for e.g. electricity from hydroelectric sources. Purchasers receive the GoO in their own account in the Grexcmo system or as a proof of cancellation. Reconciliation of a cancelled GoO takes place in relation to the electricity mix that other electricity users are sharing.
