![]() ![]() Frequently asked questionsHow do you perform your calculations? We calculate the emissions from an activity in accordance with NTM’s (Network for Transport and Environment) model. Emissions are calculated for every type of emission, and these are then converted to CO2 equivalents and added together to obtain a value for the impact on the climate. Our values and processes are verified by an independent third party, Det Norske Veritas. Will my money get through to the projects? We always deliver the amount of CO2 reduction that you purchase; if you purchase 1.5 tonnes, 1.5 tonnes of CO2 will be neutralised via the projects that we use. We naturally have costs for the development and operation of our web service, and we also have costs for handling our customers’ purchases of climate neutralisation and for handling the projects we have purchased. Our aim is always to minimise the costs for this peripheral handling in order to be as efficient as possible and to optimise the benefit for our customers. There is no simple model for reporting how our income and costs are divided up, as it varies from customer to customer and from project to project. Our goal is to achieve a gross profit of 20-25%. We can always guarantee that we will always deliver the quantity of CO2 reduction that we have undertaken to the customer. What is Tricorona Green? Tricorona Green is a packaged solution for making a journey climate neutral. The best way of reducing the impact on climate is not to travel at all, while the next best is to select a transport method that has the least impact on the environment, for example by taking the train instead of flying. It is not always possible to find an alternative transport method. For a journey between Europe and the USA, for example, there is seldom any alternative to flying, as it takes too long to travel by boat. So if you care about the climate, but you still have to fly, one alternative is to make your journey climate neutral. Tricorona Green is a solution that calculates and makes journeys climate neutral. This climate neutralisation is achieved by means of us purchasing CO2 neutralisation in CDM or Gold Standard projects. Ideally, these projects will be small-scale wind or hydroelectric power projects that meet the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol. They are analysed by independent accredited organisations, in order to ensure that your payment genuinely goes to climate neutralisation. Do I have to know what type of aircraft I am travelling on? No. The calculation is more accurate if you know what type of aeroplane and which airline you are travelling with. However, NTM’s model has standard values that we use in the event we do not know these values. Is there any difference between charter flights and regular flights? There is no difference in principle. However, the main difference tends to be that there are more passengers on charter flights, which results in improved environmental performance per passenger. Where does the data for the calculations come from? The data for the calculations comes from the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and has been processed by the FOI (Swedish Defence Research Agency) to provide support for NTM’s model. How accurate are the results? The results are based on an estimate of the fuel consumption, which varies considerably from flight to flight depending for example on whether there is a headwind or a tailwind, the queue situation when taking off and landing, etc. On the whole, however, the results can be viewed as a good average value for the calculated flight. How is the price calculated? The price is based on the price of available projects. This price varies over time, however, depending on when CO2 neutralisation is to be delivered and the quantity The price is always based on a price per tonne, and is calculated as this price multiplied by the quantity in tonnes. The price is specified inclusive of value-added tax. In the case of corporate calculations, however, the price is presented exclusive of tax. Who checks Tricorona Climate Partner? Our operation is based on an open standard (NTM’s model) and our routines and processes are regularly examined by an independent third party (Det Norske Veritas). In addition, we are naturally checked by our own internal and external auditors. We also offer our customers the opportunity, via their auditors, to examine us in order to verify our models and processes, and to check that we really deliver the climate neutralisation that we promise. How does Tricorona Climate Partner differ from its competitors? Tricorona Climate Partner differs from most of its competitors in several ways:
Can I fly as much as I want with Tricorona Green with a clear conscience? No, Tricorona Green does not legitimise air travel. It is only a way of limiting the impact on the climate of those flights you feel you have to take. The best way of reducing the climate impact is to travel less and to use means of transport that produce less of a burden on the environment. It is not always possible to avoid air travel, however, and in such cases Tricorona Green is a way of neutralising the impact on the climate. Does Tricorona Green support travel on low-price flights? We do not have an opinion on low-price flights versus other airline companies: the basic principle is to always consider before travelling by air, in order to see if there is an alternative that has less of an impact on the climate. If you still have to travel by air, the least environmental impact is produced if you travel in a modern aircraft that is fully occupied, as this reduces load on the climate. |
