Renewable energy
Carbon credits can be obtained if energy produced from renewable sources displaces energy generated from fossil fuels. The number of emission reductions generated is calculated as the difference between the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that would have been generated in the abscence of the project activity and the actual emissions generated by the project. Renewable energy projects that can apply for carbon finance:
- Hydro power plants for electricity generation
- Wind power for electricity generation
- Solar power used for electricity production, water heating, space heating and cooling
- Biomass residues as a fuel in heat and electricity production
- Biodiesel where the feedstock used for the production of the biodiesel is waste oil and/or waste fats with biogenic origin such as used cooking oil
- Tidal and wave energy electricity production
- Geothermal and Geomagmatic applications to produce heat, cooling and/or electricity
