About Carbon Offsetting
Most forms of travel, living and consumption contribute, directly or indirectly, to climate change, due to the emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels, as well as other greenhouse gases. We need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a global basis in order to reduce the effects of global warming. The best way to do this is to reduce your own direct emissions. For those emissions that remain, you can help by contributing to a project that leads to reduced emissions somewhere else. This is known as carbon offsetting or climate compensation.
When you offset your carbon emissions through Tricorona, you will be funding the development of renewable energy projects in countries around the world. By displacing fossil-based power plants, these renewable energy projects create very concrete emissions reductions now, as well as reducing the world's dependency on fossil fuels for the future. All of Tricorona’s projects are approved and monitored through the framework Clean Development Mechanism established by the UN under The Kyoto Protocol. There are many different categories of emissions reductions projects, and they vary widely with respect to additionality, quality, environmental benefits and transparency. However, CDM and Gold Standard are two frameworks that together ensure quality in the projects real, additional and traceable emissions reductions.
