Abstract:
 
The outcome we want from the climate negotiations

• The 2 degree target is vital for future generations and for today’s vulnerable populations. This means we can globally emit around 750 gtCO₂ until 2050 or 18.75 gtCO₂ per year, whereas global emissions in 2010 were above 30 gtCO₂.
   
• We want binding absolute targets for everyone so as to get us to this pathway and propose a large degree of flexibility on how to get there – that way, tougher targets are possible. The importance is to ensure high environmental integrity and wide public stakeholder participation throughout all processes.
   
• Standardized rules are needed for individual countries’ emission targets (MRV). All trading schemes should allow for the use of CDM and other financial mechanisms.
   
• We welcome new trading initiatives such as NAMAs and REDD+. The CDM is a successful and proven mechanism that should be expanded.
