Abstract:

The outcome we want from the climate negotiations

  • The 2 degree target is vital for future generations and for today’s vulnerable populations. This means we can globally emit around 750 gtCO2 until 2050 or 18.75 gtCO2 per year, whereas global emissions in 2010 were above 30 gtCO2.

  • We want binding absolute targets for everyone so as to get us to this pathway and propose a large degree of flexibility on how to get there – that way, tougher targets are possible. The importance is to ensure high environmental integrity and wide public stakeholder participation throughout all processes.

  • Standardized rules are needed for individual countries’ emission targets (MRV). All trading schemes should allow for the use of CDM and other financial mechanisms.

  • We welcome new trading initiatives such as NAMAs and REDD+. The CDM is a successful and proven mechanism that should be expanded.
