  2009-03-03 New service for climate conscious business travellersTricorona and Carlson Wagonlit Travel Sweden launched today a new service that makes it easier for business travellers to travel “climate smart”. The services allows travellers to see the climate impact of different travel options, and also to offset the actual climate impact with emissions reductions from UN-certified projects within the Kyoto Protocol. By displaying the climate impact and the associated offset cost at the point of booking, the traveller can easily take account of the climate impact as a parameter in the decision process, along with other factors such as price, journey time and convenience. “This service gives the traveller a tool to actively minimise their climate impact. The cost of the offset is then itemised on the traveller’s e-ticket / booking confirmation, which makes it easy for the organisation to report and compare climate impact and offset costs over time and across different parts of the organisation,” says Johan Wilson, Commercial Director at Carlson Wagonlit Travel Sweden. The climate impact from the journey is then compensated with emissions reductions from renewable energy projects in developing countries. The projects are all certified by the UN under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol, and customers may as an additional option also choose “Gold Standard” projects.
