Tricorona helps Murtans Traffic School offset its carbon emissions

Tricorona has been given the task of making Murtans the first traffic school in Sweden to report and offset its entire carbon footprint. The company’s Managing Director, Lennart Svensson, is strongly committed to the environment and has long worked to reduce the school’s climate impact, a commitment that has now culminated in a decision to offset all carbon emissions caused by the business.

The first steps taken by the traffic school, located in Falkenberg, to reduce their climate impact were using green electricity, driving green cars and teaching EcoDriving to their pupils. The final step taken to make the school carbon neutral was to offset the remaining emissions via UN-certified Gold Standard CDM projects in developing countries.

“Road traffic is part of the problem, but we want to be part of the solution. We have been working to improve the environment for many years and are now taking it one step further to become the first traffic school in Sweden to fully offset our carbon emissions,” says Lennart Svensson.

The carbon offsetting done for the Murtans Traffic School is certified by the UN under the Kyoto Protocol and also by the Gold Standard Foundation, guaranteeing that the project has high environmental benefit while contributing to sustainable development at the local level. Furthermore, the project meets the Swedish Energy Agency’s requirements for carbon offsetting and undergoes an annual audit  to quantify the emission reductions are actually achieved .

“We are very pleased by Murtans’ climate commitment. Now anyone who takes driving lessons at the Murtans Traffic School knows that they can do so with a good conscience and that the small amount of emissions they do generate are offset in a credible manner,” says Per Egstam, President of Tricorona Climate Partner. We hope that other traffic schools will also be inspired by this admirable initiative and follow Murtans’ good example.”
