![]() ![]() 2009-12-15 Comments regarding chinese wind projectsThe Executive Board of the UN’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) rejected on the 4 December ten wind projects from China, two of which where Tricorona’s (one of which is jointly developed with the Swedish Energy Agency). The reason for the rejections, according to the Executive Board, was over concerns that China was using money from the CDM to compensate for lowering feed-in tariffs. The Executive Board argued that these wind projects were not additional and could possibly have been implemented even without the CDM funding. The two rejected projects have a potential to generate approximately 2 million CERs up to and including 2012. Tricorona, who is acting through the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), says that this is incorrect. “Tariffs for wind power have ever since the Chinese wind power boom either remained stable or have in fact risen in certain areas”, says Tricorona’s Technical Director Susanne Haefeli-Hestvik. “There is no substance to support the position the Executive Board is taking”. Tricorona and the other project developers have been encouraged by the Executive Board to reapply for registration for the rejected projects. A new application process will take another 6-9 months.
