![]() ![]() 2010-03-30 Tricorona has now registered over a hundred climate projects with the UNTricorona’s business concept is to invest in emission-reducing climate projects, known as CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects, in developing countries. The company recently registered its one hundredth project with the UN. Tricorona’s project portfolio contains a large number of projects calculated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 47.9 million tonnes by 31 December 2012 and another 63.8 million tonnes during the period 2013–2020. “We are very happy and proud that we now have more than 100 CDM projects registered with the UN,” says Niels von Zweigbergk, CEO of Tricorona. “Our project portfolio contains more than 200 carbon-reducing projects in various developing countries. So far, these projects have reduced global greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 9.5 million tonnes, which is equivalent to more than 19 percent of Sweden’s annual emissions. “With long-term rules in place, the system has great potential as a cost-effective means to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions,” says Niels von Zweigbergk. The five most recently registered projects are three wind farms and two hydropower plants in China. Together, these projects will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 700,000 tonnes annually, which is equivalent to the emissions from 200,000 Swedish cars in a year. Most of Tricorona’s investments in CDM projects involve renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements.
