Tricorona launches climate neutralisation service based on UN-certified carbon projects
Tricorona announced today the launch of Tricorona Green, its new web-based service for calculation and offsetting of climate impact.
Tricorona Green enables individuals and organisations to calculate the climate impact of their air travel, and then to offset this impact by purchasing carbon emissions reductions from renewable energy projects that Tricorona invests in. These projects are certified under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. Tricorona also offers the option to purchase emissions reductions from projects that qualify under the Gold Standard, a voluntary standard for carbon offset projects that has been developed by the World Wildlife Fund and over 40 other NGOs.
“Global emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced,” says Niels von Zweigbergk, CEO at Tricorona, “and reductions must happen at source. But those emissions that remain can now be offset with our projects that reduce not only carbon emissions today but also global dependence on fossil fuels now and in the future.”
“Climate neutralisation has received a lot of attention recently, and a lot of criticism has been directed at offset services based on arbitrary calculation methods or uncertified projects with questionable environmental benefits,” says Per Egstam, program manager for climate neutralisation at Tricorona. “By taking full account of all greenhouse gas emissions and by using only projects that are certified under the Kyoto Protocol, Tricorona Green offers the market an offsetting service of the highest quality.”
Tricorona cooperates with Tällberg Foundation by offering participants to their annual Forum the possibility to support carbon reduction projects that are part of the Kyoto CDM system. The annual Tällberg Forum is a global gathering of leaders from all over the world and from various sectors of society that discusses global issues.
